I teach Hatha Yoga, which is the main form of yoga, from which many other types of yoga have sprung. Hatha means Sun/Moon. The meaning of this is to bring both opposing sides of our natures into balance, the sun being active and the moon, passive. Hatha Yoga combines active and stronger work with passive, more gentle stretches. This combination promotes strength at the same time as flexibility. Too much development of strength could make you more rigid and over emphasis on suppleness could make you weak. This applies to the whole body/mind/spirit, as when you do work on one aspect of yourself it affects all other aspects too.
Besides the posture work that people associate with yoga we also work on breathing awareness including development of better breathing practices. We also spend some time every session in relaxation or meditation to absorb the benefits from the session and to relax the mind thoroughly and de-stress. Many people like this bit the best!
